Walla-Walla is a city in southeast Washington, with an estimated population of 31,350. It is just 13 miles from the Oregon border and approximately a four-hour drive from Seattle. The city of Walla Walla is home to Whitman College and Walla Walla Community College. The Walla Walla University is located in nearby College Place. For history buffs, the oldest bank in the state of Washington was founded in Walla Walla in 1869. The downtown's turn-of-the-20th-century architecture has been beautifully restored, giving visitors a glimpse into the past. Walla Walla was named one of "Americas Great Main Streets" by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and offers historic tours, outdoor concerts, tasting rooms, three theaters and the oldest continuous symphony west of the Mississippi River. In addition, more than 350 retailers, gift shops, cafes, antique shops and art galleries can be found in downtown Walla Walla. The area is known for growing sweet onions, but there has also been an explosion in the wine industry over the last ten years. Walla Walla is quickly becoming a popular destination for wine connoisseurs, with several wineries receiving top reviews from various wine publications. Blues and jazz are also popular in Walla Walla. You can catch a concert almost every weekend, and the area's three colleges offer plays, concerts, sponsor lectures and gallery tours on a regular basis.

Walla Walla Weather & Climate

Southeast Washington  possesses a climate with both continental and marine characteristics. Considering its northerly latitude, Washington's climate is mild. There are several climatic controls which have a definite influence on the climate; terrain, Pacific Ocean, and semi-permanent high and low pressure regions located over the North Pacific Ocean. The effect of these various controls combine to produce entirely different conditions within short distances. East of the Cascades, summers are warmer, winters are colder and precipitation is less than in western Washington.
