Union
is a small, unincorporated community located in Mason County in northwest Washington. It lies along the southern shore of Hood Canal in an area known as "the Great Bend." There is no U.S. census data for Union, so the population of the community is unknown. This area is the homeland of the native Skokomish Tribe. The Skokomish River flows off the nearby Olympic Mountains, flowing into Hood Canal just south of Union. State Highway 106 is the main route through Union, which leads to the town of Belfair to the north and Potlatch and US Highway 101 to the south. This is a mountainous, beautiful area of great natural beauty. The Hood Canal is called "a sparkling jewel on the south shore of the Great Bend." Attractions include a golf course, marina and public boat launch, fine dining and other recreational activities. It's especially popular for fishing and shell fishing, sea kayaking and birding. Mt. Washington, Mt. Constance and the mountains known as the Brothers, rise across Hood Canal and can be seen from almost anywhere in Union. An artists' colony prospered in Union until 1952, and was the first non-native colony in Washington.

Northwest Washington , near the Puget Sound and San Juan Islands, has a fairly temperate climate. The temperature of the salt water surrounding the islands doesnft vary greatly throughout the seasons, so it helps cool the air surrounding the islands. Northwest Washington experiences frequent cloud cover, fog and drizzle. Misty morning will be followed by partial clearing and occasional showers. An umbrella always comes in handy. Evenings are usually warm with a light ocean breeze. Temperatures range from low 30s in winter to mid 80s in summer. Coastal conditions are generally much more harsh than those in the Puget Sound.
