Ocean-Shores
is a city and peninsula in Grays Harbor County, located along the central Pacific Coast of Washington. The population was 3,836 as of 2000 census. The Ocean Shores peninsula is six miles long and is bordered by the Pacific Ocean and Grays Harbor. Aside from the picturesque ocean beaches, visitors enjoy two freshwater lakes, twenty-three miles of canals and other scenic natural areas surrounding the city. While the six miles of sandy ocean beaches are the main attraction, there is much more to do. More than 250 species of birds are found during the year and deer roam the city neighborhoods. There is exciting entertainment, family activities, plenty of lodging choices, restaurants and shopping and golf. Beachcombing is a fun activity for the whole family, where you'll likely find sand dollars, cockleshells, agate rock and beautiful driftwood. Kite flying on the Ocean Shores beaches is another fun thing to do, plus horseback riding is also allowed on the beaches. Other activities include surf fishing, clamming, hiking, biking or simply relaxing on the shore, watching another gorgeous west coast sunset, as the sun sinks below the horizon. If the weather is foggy or cold, no problem, as the Ocean Shores area is home to many art galleries, museums, bowling, arcades and other indoor entertainment, too.

West-Central Washingtion, along the coast, has mild summers and cold, wet winters. Severe storms hit Washington's coast during the winter, bringing heavy rains, strong winds, and high waves. Storms blow in about 70 to 100 inches of rain per year, the heaviest precipitation in the U.S. Coastal storm winds regularly top 40 miles per hour. During the summer, fog often moves in along Washington's coast. As the Pacific High, an area of high pressure, cools off over the Pacific Ocean, low stratus clouds form. At night, these clouds move inland as fog. This fog often burns off by mid-day, giving way to sunshine and pleasant temperatures.
